Graeme Feltham, P.Eng., MBA – President
Mr. Feltham began his role as the President of Apex Utilities Inc. in 2020 bringing over 25 years of experience in the natural gas industry. Prior to joining Apex Utilities Inc., Mr. Feltham held various executive positions with ATCO Gas & Pipelines, including Vice President of Prairie Peaks Operations, Vice President of Calgary Operations, Vice President of Engineering, and Vice President of Engineering & Construction. In his most recent role as Vice President of Customer Experience and Innovation, Mr. Feltham led a team driving initiatives in Renewable Natural Gas, hydrogen blending and other decarbonization projects. He is currently on the Canadian Gas Association Board of Directors and is past chair of the Canadian Standards Association’s Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry Systems Strategic Steering Committee, Executive Board member of Pipeline Research Council International, and member of Canadian Energy Pipeline Association Executive Business Environment Standing Committee.
Mr. Feltham holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Alberta. He has also completed the Ivey Executive Program and is a Professional Engineer.
Karen Raitz, CPHR – Vice President Corporate Service
Karen Raitz was appointed Vice President, Corporate Services in 2018. As a steward of the Company’s reputation, officer of the Company, and member of the executive team, she is responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of the Corporate Service department including those of Human Resources and Labour Relations, Environment, Health and Safety, Information Technology, Fleet and Building Services, Procurement, and the Project Management Office.
Karen’s long career at Apex Utilities has given her a range of experience in marketing, business development, franchise relations, organizational and strategy development, management, human resources, learning and professional development, and labour relations.
Karen is a graduate in Commerce from the University of Alberta, a Registered Commercial Gas Consultant, a graduate of the Corporate Executive Program at the University of Alberta School of Business Executive and Lifelong Learning, and a graduate of the HR Executive Program at the University of Alberta Centre for Executive and Management Development. She also holds certificates in Industrial Relations and Advanced Labour Relations from the Industrial Relations Centre at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
Karen is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources, past Chair and Board Member of the Nisku Business Association, past Chair and Board Member of the Black Gold Health Foundation, and Chair of the Peace Lutheran Worship & Music Committee. She is an active member of Piatta Forma Singers and a past member of the University of Alberta and Concordia College Concert Choirs.
Mike Stock, CPA, CA – Vice President, Financial Services & Regulatory Affairs
Mr. Stock was appointed to his current Vice President role in 2016. Since that time, his responsibilities have included overseeing the accounting and customer relations operations of the organization, including the financial reporting, internal controls, budget and planning, tax, gas settlement, billing, and call centre functions. In 2017, Mr. Stock’s responsibilities were expanded to include oversight for all regulatory matters of the organization, including rate applications and regulatory compliance. Since joining AUI in 2005, Mr. Stock has served in increasingly senior financial leadership roles in the organization. He is currently a member of the Canadian Gas Association Standing Committee on Regulatory Affairs.
Mr. Stock holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta.
Daina Makarenko, P. Eng. – Vice President, Operations and Engineering
Daina Makarenko was appointed Vice President, Operations and Engineering at Apex Utilities Inc. (AUI) in January 2021. Prior to this, she was AUI’s Director, Engineering Services, responsible for Engineering, Planning, Land, GIS, Business Development and Innovation. Ms. Makarenko also has Operations experience as District Supervisor, Distribution Operations of AUI’s largest district, Leduc. In this role, she led a team ensuring safe, reliable service to AUI’s customers. Since starting in January 2012, she has witnessed an evolution of the industry and looks forward to continuing leading the energy transition at AUI. Ms. Makarenko is currently a member of the Canadian Gas Association Standing Committee on Operations and Safety as well as the Standing Committee on Innovation and Markets.
A graduate of the University of Alberta, Ms. Makarenko has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and is a Professional Engineer with APEGA. Additional courses include Supervisory Citation from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Extension, and a Gas Utility Operator certificate from NAIT.
