Apex Utilities Inc. (Apex) continues its major pipeline replacement program with two projects in 2022. These projects are a part of an important program to revitalize and ensure the ongoing and safe operation of its natural gas pipeline system in the communities of Morinville and Westlock. Between the two projects, Apex will replace over 33 km of aging pipeline infrastructure installed more than 60 years ago. Construction activities are set to kick off in both towns on May 2nd and are expected to wrap up by the end of August in Morinville and the end of September in Westlock.
“Apex remains focused on the safe, reliable, and economic operation of the natural gas system serving our customers and communities,” said Imad Khaled, Apex’s Director, Engineering & Construction Services. “This project will ensure that Apex continues to serve Morinville and Westlock with reliable, clean, and safe energy for the decades to come.”
There will be some disturbances to residents and businesses over the course of the project due to excavations in certain areas or roadway restrictions. Apex will make all reasonable efforts to minimize the disturbances and restore surfaces to their previous state upon completion of the project. The project areas and excavations will be marked and secured for public safety; however, Apex asks the public to be cautious around the project areas. Customers in the affected construction areas will receive a letter directly from Apex with more information.
Apex assures the public that its employees and contractor will continue to perform construction activities in accordance with protective protocols that ensure employees, contractors, and the public are kept safe while the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
